Parquetry Flooring Sydney
What is Parquetry?
Parquetry is a flooring technique which employs small pieces of timber arranged to create a decorative pattern. The result combines opulent artistry with the worldly charm of a timber floor. There are many different types of patterns that can be used: from the simple to the elaborate, and the zany to the ordered.
Parquetry became popular in France in the 17th century as a replacement for difficult to maintain marble in well-to-do houses. Solid timber floors at the time were considered lower-class, as they were much cheaper and less ornate than marble. However, marble was too difficult to maintain, and trapped moisture underneath, which promoted rotting floor joists. Parquetry emerged as an alternative to marble as it was both decorative and durable. The same is true today for parquet flooring, and if you’re looking for a floor that strikes a balance between beauty and durability, it is a great option for you. Parquet floors are simple to maintain: they can be swept and mopped clean without the slightest inkling that they were ever dirty. They can also be sanded down and resurfaced many times as they degrade with age.
Why choose us?
We are passionate about parquetry and have the knowledge and experience to turn your flooring dreams into reality! We have a range of standard patterns available to our clients, or you can design your own. Our parquet floors come in two styles: mosaic and block. Our mosaic patterns are comprised of 6 or 7 small fingers which fit together. Our standard block patterns include herringbone, brick bond, and square on square. However, don’t let this stop you if you have a dream pattern in mind: we can lay any custom pattern you can dream up. We can also combine different shades and colours of wood to create a more textured and intricate pattern.
We also fix and restore old and damaged parquet floors. This can include sanding, resurfacing and polishing. Stanton tradesmen are experts in parquet floor restoration. We employ all of our staff in Sydney directly, and never engage sub-contractors, so you can be assured of the quality of our work.
